Dr Philip Boughton
Phil is a distinguished engineering professional with notable achievements in the Medical Devices Sector. He holds a PhD (Biomed Eng) and Bachelor of Materials Engineering Honours qualification and he has been active in medtech sector & general industry consulting for over 25 years.
Key multinational clients have included Cochlear, Terumo, Stryker, Synthes, Medacta, Fresnius-Kabi, Somnomed, Coca-cola-Powerade. Phil has also instigated, coinvented, codeveloped numerous award-winning world-first solutions: Nurochek Concussion Monitor, IIShieldTransplant Organ Tech, NurofluxStroke Monitor, ASDM BioFISpinal Implant, I-hydrate Hydration Monitor, SetdoseSmart Syringe System, BioscoutAI air monitoring.
Phil is currently CEO & Cofounder for Global Surgical Innovations and Lab Head for Sydney Spine Institute working with a cross-disciplinary team of specialists to commercialise revolutionary 3D bioscaffold technology. Prior to this role he was Deputy director for the Biomed Engineering program at The University of Sydney. Along with Elizabeth’s support and a core team Phil oversaw growth of the program to the largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere.
Phil is well networked and engaged across universities (research affiliated with UNSW & Sydney Uni Medicine), industry, hospitals, and research institutes to support advanced test and development needs.
